Read through the Bible

The pastors and staff invite you to join us in reading through the Bible in 2021. We have chosen a reading plan which offers a variety of options for you to engage.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO START! In our Bible readings for 2021, the month of June offers a brief break from the historic books of the Old Testament and introduces us to the poetic writings, beginning with Job and Psalms. This offers a great opportunity to start (or re-start) reading with us. Job and Psalms speak to very important elements of our faith and provide deeply honest expressions of life, in all it ups and downs.

STRUCTURE: This plan takes you through the entire bible in one year. The scriptures are divided up into sixteen “parts.” You’ll read two or three chapters a day, and sometimes skim through larger portions that contain genealogies, census information, etc.

VIDEOS: Each day you come to a new biblical book there are short animated videos from BibleProject about that book’s design and message and what to look for as you read. In addition to videos regarding books of the Bible, you will find theme videos relating to several topics that appear throughout Scripture. Visit the Hixson UMC YouTube Channel to access a playlist for ALL the videos.

MOBILE APP: The reading plan is also available in a mobile (or desktop) App through the YouVersion Bible that will guide you through the entire year. This app includes the daily readings in any translation you choose, direct links to the video, the ability to listen to the readings, as well as to connect with others in our church for encouragement and accountability. Click here to access the App Plan page.

PRINTATBLE READING PLAN: For those who don’t have access to the Mobile app or who would prefer a reading plan on paper, we have provided a printable reading plan with check-boxes and titles and links to the videos on our YouTube page. Click here for the printable reading plan.

POSTERS: Free downloadable posters from each Scripture video are available on BibleProject website on the resources page.
